Photography, Filming and Image Reproduction
Pepys Library Photography Guidance
Pepys Library photography guidance.
The Pepys Library holds a substantial collection of historical images, which can be purchased for private use. However, photography is not permitted within the Library, including for personal purposes.
Purchasing and reproducing images
- Existing Images: High-quality images from the Library’s collection are available for purchase.
- New Images: If an image is not already available, a new photograph may be requested. Approval is subject to item condition, and processing may take up to six weeks, though images are often supplied more quickly.
- Reproduction Fees: If images are intended for publication, exhibition, or digital use, an additional reproduction fee applies. Permission must be obtained from the Pepys Librarian before use.
Photography and filming permissions
On occasion, the Library grants access for filming historical documentaries, subject to availability. Please contact the Pepys Library for further details on scheduling and fees.
How to order
To request an image or enquire about costs and permissions, please contact the Pepys Library. A quotation will be provided for approval before processing.
Before placing an order, please review the Photographic Services: Regulations and Conditions document, which outlines the process and required order forms.
