Welcome from Sir Christopher Greenwood, Master of Magdalene
A very warm welcome all our new students and an equally warm welcome back all those returning from the summer vacation or a junior year abroad.
To our new students, you are joining a community with a history spanning nearly 600 years. Founded in 1428 as Buckingham College, parts of First Court date back to that time. Over the centuries, we have produced great scholars, influential national and international figures, and a number of notable eccentrics.
These individuals have shaped a tradition of academic excellence, creativity, music, sport, and a close-knit, supportive community. I hope you will feel right at home here, continuing this proud legacy.
Although I became Master in 2020, my connection with Magdalene goes back to 1973, when I first arrived as a student. My wife and I were married in the College chapel, and Magdalene has played a significant role in our lives. I hope it will be just as important in yours. We look forward to meeting you!
To those returning, I look forward to seeing you again and hearing about everything you’ve accomplished since we last met.
